AHMEDABAD: Gujarat breached the 30,000
Covid-19 cases mark as the state recorded 580 fresh cases in 24 hours on Friday. This is the highest tally recorded for the second time in the state. On June 21 also the state had seen 580 cases.
The Covid tally now in Gujarat is 30,158, making the state the fourth state after Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Delhi to record more than 30,000 cases.
Ahmedabad district also breached 20,000 cases mark. With 20,058 cases, it carries 67% or two-thirds of the state's
coronavirus burden. To put the figure in perspective, only five Indian states including Gujarat have so far recorded 20,000 cumulative Covid-19 cases so far.
The state in 24 hours also recorded 18 deaths and 532
discharges of Covid-19 positive patients, taking the toll to 1,772 and total discharges to 22,038.
The number of deaths remained the same as Thursday – which was the lowest daily death toll in 56 days.
Thedeathsincludedeightfrom Ahmedabad, three from Surat, two each from Aravalli and Bharuch and one each from Mehsana, Banaskantha and Patan. The discharges included 210 from Ahmedabad,149 from Surat and101from Vadodara.
The new cases included 219 from Ahmedabad,182 from Surat, 45 from Vadodara, 16 from Bharuch and 14 from Gandhinagar. With the update, Surat now has more than 4,000 total cases. Vadodara had crossed 2,000 total cases on Thursday.
The state now has 6,348 active cases, which are 21% of the total cases recorded so far. In terms of active cases, Gujarat is now fifth in India after Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.
