Gujarat: Couple consumes phenyl over property dispute in Rajkot

RAJKOT: A property dispute with their family members forced a couple to consume phenyl at their residence in Mawdigam locality of Rajkot on Friday night.
Police said the victims, identified as Suresh Sagathia (36) and his wife Vanita Sagathia (35), had attempted suicide.
The couple were taken to Rajkot Civil Hospital, where their conditions are reported to be stable.
In his statement to the police officials of the hospital chowky at the civil hospital, Suresh said he had a property dispute with his elder brother Hemant Sagathia.
"The Sagathia brothers had inherited an ancestral house. It was decided that Suresh would keep the possession of the property and pay Rs 10 lakh to Hemant. Suresh claims to have paid Rs five lakh to Hemant. However, he could not pay the remaining amount after the lockdown period was imposed due to the Covid-19 outbreak," said Raju Geeda of the hospital chowky.
"Suresh alleged that Hemant, his wife Hina, his brother-in-law Gaurav and Hemant's mother-in-law Shantu started harassing him with threats and abusive language, tired of which he along with his wife decided to commit suicide," added Geeda.
Incidentally, Hemant had also attempted suicide by consuming phenyle on June 21 over the same property dispute. That time, Suresh was booked.
