ROAD TO NOW
Series final ★★★★
9.30pm, ABC
For a program that has been largely about political events since the fall of the Berlin Wall, this series ends on a note that, in many ways, transcends politics. The spate of natural disasters that have rocked the world since the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami is charted, with some entirely expected but nonetheless alarming observations from the experts. The biggest takeaway from this series is that we never learn – a grim prospect indeed considering the challenges faces us all.

WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?
★★★
7.30pm, SBS
Former foreign minister, Julie Bishop, is an enthusiastic scholar of her family tree, which turns out to be a mix of the well-heeled and the well-travelled; and the down and out. Her journey takes her from the hills of Adelaide to the pastures of Wiltshire, UK. The anecdotes unearthed are nuggets of social history, made all the more intriguing because of their connection to a known figure. Bishop maintains her famous composure – and her surprising sense of humour – throughout.
Desert Collectors
DESERT COLLECTORS
★★½
9.30pm, 7mate
There are so many lovely things to look at in this episode of the collectibles series – there’s the windscreen view of the vast WA Marscape, an expansive array of tiny, ornamental boots; and a pinball parlour of many a man’s dreams, complete with light-up signs advertising everything from beer to fast food. Dealer Nigel Quick’s last stop – at the garage of a late hot-rod fanatic – is a moving example of why things can mean so much.
