Coronavirus Live Updates: Today is the 95th day of India’s nationwide lockdown, meant to curb the novel coronavirus pandemic. India is now among the five countries most affected by the outbreak, with a total of 5,08,953 infections and 15,685 deaths. India on Saturday saw another record spike of 18,552 new COVID-19 cases in a single-day, pushing the tally to 5,08,953, while the death toll rose to 15,685, according to the Union Health Ministry data.
The number of recoveries continued to surge with 2,95,880 patients cured so far, while there are 1,97,387 active cases, according to the updated official figures at 8 am. One patient has migrated.
Globally, there have been over 86.39 lakh confirmed cases of COVID-19. At least 4.59 lakh people have died so far. The United States, Brazil, Russia, India and the United Kingdom are the most-affected countries.Read More

24 SP leaders booked for defying social distancing norms during the protest: Police
Twenty-four Samajwadi Party leaders, including its district unit president, were booked for allegedly defying social distancing norms while protesting against the fuel price hike, police said on Saturday. The party leaders had staged a demonstration here on Friday during which they flouted social distancing norms, Superintendent of Police S Anand said. (PTI)
8 states contributed 85% COVID-19 caseload, 87pc deaths: Health Ministry
Eight states, including Maharashtra, Delhi and Tamil Nadu, contributed 85.5 per cent of the active COVID-19 caseload and 87 per cent of the total deaths due to the disease in India, according to the Union Health Ministry. The ministry said it briefed the Group of Ministers on COVID-19 on the coronavirus situation in the country and the efforts to boost healthcare infrastructure on Saturday.
"It was mentioned that presently eight states - Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Telangana, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal - contribute 85.5 per cent of active caseload and 87 per cent of total deaths in India," it said in a statement. (PTI)

COVID: 52 people arrested for flouting norms by gathering at mosque in UP's Shamli
Fifty-two people were arrested in a town in Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh for gathering at a mosque for Friday prayers, violating orders that prevent large assemblies to combat the spread of COVID-19, police said here. They were arrested as assembly of more than five people at religious places in the state is prohibited in view of the outbreak, SHO Yashpal Dhama said on Saturday. (PTI)

He was found infected days after a senior minister from Nanded recovered from the infection. "The legislator is undergoing treatment at a private hospital. He had come in contact with a local corporator, who had tested positive," the official said.

The new patient, a resident of Champhai district, had recently returned to Mizoram from Delhi, a statement issued by the state Information and Public Relations Department said. He is asymptomatic and has been admitted to a COVID-19 care centre in Champhai, it said.
