RGF got China funds for work on Sino-Indian ties: Congress

NEW DELHI: Congress on Friday said that Rajiv Gandhi Foundation received Rs 1.45 crore from the Chinese embassy for disabled persons welfare programme and research on Sino-Indian relationships and the money was used for specified purposes and the accounts were audited and filed under FCRA. It said after Tsunami in the last week of 2004, RGF received a “modest amount of Rs 20 lakh” from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund in 2005 for relief activities.
AICC spokesman Randeep Surjewala said the allegations were part of BJP’s “diabolical conspiracy to divert attention from the Chinese intrusions for which the BJP-led government has no answer”. “We want to tell PM Modi and BJP president JP Nadda that their total failure to protect national security and territorial integrity of India cannot be washed away in the cacophony of manufactured and desperate allegations vis-à-vis grants received by the RGF which has been duly audited and reported both to the Income Tax and the home ministry,” he said.
