BHUBANESWAR: A 68-year-old man in
Ganjam district died of
Covid-19, increasing death toll due to the virus in state to 18 on Saturday.
“Regret to inform the demise of a 68-year old Covid positive male of Ganjam district. He was also suffering from the comorbid conditions of hypertension and diabetes,” the health department tweeted.
It was the ninth death in Ganjam. The other deaths have been reported in Khurda (4), Cuttack (3) and one each in
Puri and Bargarh districts. Eleven of the 18 deaths in state were reported in June. Seven other Covid positive patients have died due to non-Covid reasons in state so far.
The health department said 170 more persons tested positive for the virus mounting state total positive cases to 6350. The new positive cases include the highest 58 from Ganjam besides Khurda (19), Nabarangpur (19), 16 each in Rayagada and Gajapati, Cuttack (14), among others. Twenty-seven of the new positive cases are “local” while the rest 143 are among the quarantined people.
On Saturday, 184 more Covid-19 patients recovered increasing the number of total cured patients to 4606. They include the highest 48 from Ganjam, besides Khurda (45),
Balasore (31), Gajapati (12), Bhadrak Bhadrak (10), six each from Jagatsinghpur and
Jharsuguda, five each from Kendrapara and Puri, four from Sundargarh, three each from Balangir and Keonjhar, two from Cuttack besides one each from Angul, Jajpur, Kandhamal and Mayurbhanj. Odisha currently has 1719 active cases.
