In view of the rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in the state, the Association of All Goa Muslim Jamats has asked all the masjid committees to delay the reopening of mosques till July 31.

The association said those committees that are in favour of reopening the masjids located in safe zones from July 1 should take the decision with full responsibility of implementing the standard operating procedures set by the

Ministry of Health and Welfare for religious places.

It added that the committees should keep the masjids open only for residents living close to the masjids after following safety measures set by the association.

Earlier, the apex religious body of Muslims in the state had announced that mosques in Goa would continue to be shut till June 30 amid the fear of community transmission. According to the safety measures, large gatherings and congregations especially at Friday prayers continue to remain prohibited.
