Navi Mumbai announces complete lockdown in 10 containment zones till July 5

The complete lockdown is ordered from June 29 to July 5. During the lockdown, movement of the people will be strictly prohibited except for medical emergencies and buying essentials.  

Considering the recent spike in cases, Navi Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Annasaheb Misal has declared a complete lockdown in 10 containment zones in Navi Mumbai. These containment zones cover nearly 71,000 households. 

The complete lockdown is ordered from June 29 to July 5. During the lockdown, movement of the people will be strictly prohibited except for medical emergencies and buying essentials.  

The authorities have mentioned that the early announcement of the lockdown comes in the view of providing with "some time to the residents" to prepare for the lockdown. 

A media house quoted the commissioner saying, “We have observed that there has been spike in COVID-19 cases in some areas of the city, and hence they have been designated as containment zones and will be placed under lockdown from June 29 to July 5. We have given some time to the residents so they can prepare for the lockdown.”

The commissioner warned the people against the violation fo the order and declared that strict actions will be undertaken for people violating the laws. 

“Violation of the order by any person will attract action under Disaster Management Act, 2005, section 188 of the Indian Penal Code and other legal provisions,” Misal was quoted saying.

According to the Navi Mumbai Municipal Commission website, the current number of COVID-19 cases stands at 5853 with 2365 active cases and 194 deaths.
