HYANNIS — No more Fribble milkshakes or Fishamajig sandwiches will be served on Cape Cod.

The Friendly’s restaurant on Route 132 in Hyannis, the last of the chain’s locations on Cape Cod, has been permanently closed.

“With the coronavirus pandemic continuing to have a devastating impact across the restaurant industry, we made the very difficult decision to close the Friendly’s location in Hyannis.,” a company spokeswoman said via email this week.

“We invite local patrons to visit our four other nearby locations in South Weymouth, Fall River, Pembroke and Plymouth,” she said, noting the Hyannis restaurant was a franchise location.

The restaurant’s sign had been blacked out and the grass was unmowed earlier this week.

A Friendly’s restaurant on Davis Straits in Falmouth closed in 2019. A location in Sagamore Beach was shuttered a year earlier after being cited for repeated health violations by the town of Bourne.

The company was established in 1935 in Springfield in the midst of the Great Depression. During its heyday in the 1970s, the Friendly’s chain grew to 500 restaurants.

Friendly’s currently operates 153 restaurants, including 34 in Massachusetts, according to its website.
