CHENNAI: DMK on Friday announced Rs 25 lakh to the family of a father-son duo who died under judicial custody in Tuticorin district of Tamil Nadu earlier this week.
In a statement, DMK president M K Stalin said the party condoled the deaths of P Jayaraj and his son, Benicks, and decided to donate Rs 25 lakh to the family members.
“Jayaraj and Benicks were tortured and killed by the Sathankulam police. Injuries on their bodies were confirmed in the medical report while the autopsy report is awaited,” said Stalin.
He said all those who were responsible for the deaths of the two men should be taken to task. “The public and shop owners are protesting, and the high court has taken suo motu cognizance of the deaths. DMK will be with the family,” said Stalin.
