Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch ‘Atma Nirbhar Uttar Pradesh Rojgar Abhiyan' for migrant workers returning to UP on Friday. The Railway Board on Thursday announced that all passenger services, regular mail, express trains have been cancelled till August 12 in view of the coronavirus pandemic. A full refund will be given to passengers who booked tickets for regular timetabled trains from July 1 to August 12. However, all special trains -- 15 pairs running on the Rajdhani routes since May 12 and 100 pairs operating since June 1 -- will continue, an official order stated. Read more
The government is likely to announce the guidelines for Unlock 2.0 by June 30. As per reports, air travel on selected international routes might be allowed in the second phase of unlock. However, metro services are unlikely to begin. For opening educational institutions, the decision has been left to the states.
Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday raked up yet another controversy as he referred slain terrorist and 9/11 mastermind Osama bin Laden as a "shaheed" (martyr) while addressing the National Assembly. Khan said one of the incidents that have hugely embarrassment Pakistan was how Laden had been killed in Abbottabad. The Pak Prime Minister used the phrase "shaheed kar diya" (martyred) for Laden. Bin Laden was killed by US Navy Seals in Pakistan's Abbottabad in May 2011. Read more
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has asked the ICC to get written assurances from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that its team won't face any problems during the 2021 T20 World Cup and the 2023 50-over World Cup. “We are also looking at the fact that the ICC World Cups are to be hosted in India in 2021 and 2023 and we have already asked the ICC to give us written assurances from BCCI that we will not face any problems getting visas and clearance to play in India,” PCB CEO Wasim Khan said in an interview on the Youtube Cricket Baaz Channel.
