The weakening of the has brought clearer skies in most parts of the state with only light rainfall being recorded in the past 48 hours at different rain gauge stations in Goa. However, a circulation in the southwest Bay of Bengal is likely to reignite the monsoon activity in the state after June 27.
Very light to light rainfall occurred at many places over the state on Thursday. however, owing to the weakened phenomenon, no weather warnings over both the districts of the state have been issued by the IMD for the next three days starting from June 25.
“We can expect light rainfall activity, however,” IMD scientist, Rahul M said.
He attributed the reason for the trickles to lack of weather systems that could improve the windspeed or monsoon activity over the state.
Even though there is no likelihood of heavy rainfall, the activity is likely to pick up in the coming days. According to IMD scientists, following June 27, a circulation will form over the southwest Bay of Bengal which may probably improve the monsoon activity. The IMD has therefore issued a forecast saying that heavy rain is very likely at isolated places on June 28 and 29.
“Below normal monsoon activity will continue for only two to three more days. However, this does not mean that it is going to be entirely dry. The state will receive one or two spells of light to moderate rain.” Rahul said.
