GUWAHATI: The
Assam government has stated that Bhutan is helping in clearing the blockage of
informal irrigation channels into
Indian fields.
Assam's government has also denied reports that Bhutan is blocking water supply to the state. Reports claimed that hundreds of farmers from 25 Assamese villages along the Indo-Bhutan border had alleged that the Bhutan government was not allowing farmers from the Indian side to channelize water for irrigation.
Assam Chief Secretary Kumar
Sanjay Krishna clarified through a tweet that stories about Bhutan blocking
India's water supply were incorrectly reported, and that the neighboring country was actually helping clear blockages. The Chief Secretary added that the restricted supply was actually due to natural blockages in irrigation channels into Indian fields.
