Amazing video shows shark leap out of the water in effort to eat a seabird but just fails to snag the meal

A seabird was just inches away from becoming dinner after being attacked by a giant shark that leapt out of the water.

The bird was sitting on the water's surface off Port Lincoln in South Australia on Thursday when a shark lurking below decided to take a bite.

The beast jumped out of the water but missed the bird who remarkably came off unscathed and flew away.

Onlookers who were on a shark watching tour in the area were lucky enough to witness the amazing sight. 

The Neptune Islands off Port Lincoln are well known for teaming with great white sharks.

A massive  4.8m great white is regularly spotted in the area by local fishermen and divers.
