Karnataka: Coastal districts record 42 cases of Covid-19

MANGALURU: Coastal districts recorded 42 cases of Covid-19 with 33 in Dakshina Kannada and 9 in Udupi on Friday.
With this, the total number of positive cases in Dakshina Kannada increased to 519 and 1,125 in Udupi as per the state bulletin. Dakshina Kannada has 139 active cases while Udupi has 86. As many as 34 patients were discharged from District Wenlock Hospital on Friday.
Sindhu B Rupesh, deputy commissioner, Dakshina Kannada, said 15 out of 33 positive cases reported in the district were returnees from Saudi Arabia, Dammam and Qatar. Meanwhile, the district also recorded four cases of Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) and two persons with severe acute respiratory infections (SARI) on Friday.
While two cases reported are under investigation, 10 have contracted the disease through contact, the DC said. There are four patients in the ICU of Covid-19 Hospital due to comorbidity. Of the four, a 49-year-old male has diabetes and pneumonia, a 57-year-old female suffers from liver, heart diseases, diabetes and also has been suffering from pneumonia.
A 59-year-old male is in ICU due to heart disease and pneumonia. Similarly, a 78 year old suffer from diabetes, high blood pressure coupled with Parkinson’s syndrome and pneumonia, the DC said.
Udupi deputy commissioner Jagadeesha said while the recovery rate in the state is 63%, Udupi has 92% with only 0.2% death rate against the state average of 1.6%. The district has 2,400 beds to treat Covid-19 patients and nine fever clinics have been opened, he said.
