Tamil Nadu has witnessed 3645 new Covid-19 cases on Friday and the total infection has surged past the 74-thousand mark.
Meanwhile, Chennai city civic body is further augmenting the Covid-19 Care Centres as a measure of preparedness to accommodate more patients if the need arises. The required human resources including doctors, nurses and paramedical staff are also being mobilised.
A new Covid-19 Care Centre is getting readied in the Anna University in Chennai with about 1500 beds. It will have separate residential units for the doctors, nurses, caterers and other supporting staff.
The city corporation commissioner Prakash told reporters today another 5000-bedded facility will be set up at the newly built Slum Clearance Board tenements at Ambattur in the city to accommodate asymptomatic patients whenever the need arises. Furthermore, several NGOs are being involved in mingling with the people in crowded locations in the city to create awareness on preventive measures, which he said is paying rich dividends.
Meanwhile, the door-to-door mapping of body temperature of people by the field staff has significantly increased testing of suspected cases of Covid-19 and early detection of patients.
