Raisoni students bag second position in online hackathon on Covid-19

PUNE: 'COVID Strikers' a team of GH Raisoni Institute of Engineering and Technology's (GHRIET) secured the second runner-up position in the national level online hackathon 'Crack the Covid-19 Crisis' organized by IBM and Nasscom Future Skills recently.
The team made a project called ‘power to voice’ under the crisis communication head which aimed to solve issues related to migrant workers. Students Akshay Toshniwal, Soham Munot, Himanshu Deshmukh, Saurabh Chordiya under the guidance of Prof Rachana Sabale, and Prof Pankaj Khambre created the app enabling smoother communication between government, administration, organizations and migrant workers, said a statement issued by the college.
Sabale said in the statement, "Our students made an application which aimed for better coordination between the administration office and railway station for migration of workers from one state to another. The application also helps in risk analysis by asking symptoms of Covid-19 and accordingly predicted risk on the basis of age group of the user. The app does not require any internet and smartphone and can run on simple mobile phones.”
A total of 26,478 teams participated nationwide in the hackathon including over one lakh IT professionals, students, and start-ups. After three rounds of rigorous filtration, the GHRIET team secured the second runner-up position. Now, these students will be competing in the International IBM Hackathon event “Call for Code Global Challenge”.
