The Cuncolim Municipal Council (CMC) has decided to impose a week-long mutual lockdown of the municipal area in the light of detection of three COVID-19 cases in the area. At the council meeting on Friday, it was also disclosed that the civic body will sanitise the area regularly as well as advise shop owners and roadside vendors to keep their establishments closed for one week to help curb the spread of the virus.

At the meeting attended by CMC councillors including the chairperson, deputy chairperson and chief officer, various measures that could be adopted in the wake of the new COVID-19 cases in the municipal area were discussed.

“So far Cuncolim has seen three COVID-19 cases of which two are from Balli. So today we decided to have a week-long lockdown starting from this Sunday and continuing till next Sunday,” said CMC chairperson Succorin Coutinho.

Deputy chairperson Viddesh Desai meanwhile said that a vehicle to make announcement would be sent across the municipal area to inform people about the voluntary lockdown. Locals will also be urged to buy and stock up on essential items by Saturday to willingly be a part of the lockdown.

Later in the evening, the municipality issued a notice announcing the lockdown between June 28 to July 5, advising the public and citizens to strictly follow the face mask and social distancing norms.
