PUNE: Nearly half of the 159
Pune Municipal Corporation staffers who have tested positive for the coronavirus so far, have made full recoveries.
Of the 159, 76 cases — 47% of the total count — were registered in the last two weeks.
On June 11, the PMC had 83 staff with
Covid-19. Since then, there has been an increase in the number of cases. At one point, the civic body was registering five new cases every day amongst staff. The number of cases now stands at 159, with 10 deaths. Seventy-seven employees are undergoing treatment for Covid-19.
Many of the patients — both permanent and contract employees — are from departments such as sanitation, health and solid waste control.
An official said, “Among the 72 recovered workers, 53 are permanent staff; 19 are on contract. Nine permanent staffers are among the 10 dead.”
