New Delhi: Indian forces deployed on the
LAC have gathered from their
local Chinese counterparts, posted on other sites, that at least two soldiers other than the commanding officer (CO), were killed in the June 15 clash at
Galwan Valley. Details of the fate of other wounded were still not known.
While the Chinese foreign ministry has not acknowledged any causality or injuries,
PLA forces have confirmed to their counterparts that the CO was killed by the injuries sustained in a violent ‘fist fight’. As reported by ET first, external affairs minister S Jaishankar had told the all-party meeting that the Chinese side had confirmed the death of their battalion commander.
The names of the
Chinese soldiers — dead or injured –– have not been revealed but rescue teams from the Indian side, comprising ITBP, claimed to have witnessed Chinese evacuation team with equipment and staff administering medical aid to them. Earlier, Indian forces estimated 17 casualties on the Chinese side and said the clash started over a group of Chinese soldiers setting up a tent in the valley, violating the terms of disengagement that the two sides had agreed upon.
