Haryana: Following protests by farmers sunflower procurement date extended, registration on MFMB portal to resume

KURUKSHETRA: Following protest march by the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) Haryana under the leadership of its state president Gurnam Singh Charuni in Shahabad-Markanda town of Kurukshetra district on Thursday, the Haryana government extended the date of sunflower procurement up to July 10.
In a meeting that took place during the protest on Thursday at Shahabad sub-division magistrate (SDM) Dr Kiran’s office, the farmers have also been assured by the concerned officials that soon the government will also open the Meri Fasal Mera Byora (MFMB) portal for registration of those sunflower farmers who were left behind or want to rectify mistakes.
On Thursday afternoon, hundreds of farmers gathered in Shahabad town and started a protest march towards the grain market while raising slogans against the Haryana government, state chief minister (CM) and deputy CM.
However, they were not allowed to head towards the grain market as a heavy police force was deputed by the district administration and the police took the farmers towards the Shahabad-Markanda police station, where they protested and raised anti-government slogans.
Shahabad SDM Dr Kiran told, “In a meeting, the farmers have been assured to resolve their problems. The state government has already extended the date of sunflower procurement up to July 10 from June 30. They demanded to open the MFMB portal for registration of those sunflower farmers who were left behind and who want to rectify mistakes in their registration process. The opening up of the portal has been assured and the same will be done. We have started the process of obtaining the list of farmers with pending registrations and the same will be approved through Kurukshetra deputy director agriculture (DDA) and forwarded to the headquarters.”
BKU media coordinator Rakesh Kumar Bains told, “We have received the copy of orders that the government has extended the sunflower procurement date up to July 10. Also, the officials have opened the MFMB portal and the registration process for the remaining sunflower farmers has started in the grain market on Thursday.”
Kurukshetra DDA Pardeep Meel said, “Recently, we received the list of 3,134 sunflower farmers in Kurukshetra, who claimed that either they have pending registrations on MFMB portal or want to rectify some ambiguities. During the verification, out of 3,134; a total of 1,693 farmers were found who were not registered and the rest 1,441 were already registered. The registration process has been started for the verified farmers, and for the rest it will start soon. The farmers will not have to face any problem and their entire sunflower crop will be procured by the government agency on MSP.”
