Image used for representational purpose onlyCHANDIGARH: A man dragged a cop for 500 metre on his jeep with his hand stuck in a window in Sector 48 on Tuesday.
Head constable Varinder Singh, who was posted at the Sector 49 police station, was deployed at an anti-snatching naka along with three other cops near the motor market in Sector 48 around 6pm. The cops noticed a man in a black-coloured jeep coming towards the check post while playing music at a high volume.
Varinder signaled him to stop and asked him to show the vehicle documents. As he put his hand on the window, the driver rolled up the glass and pressed the accelerator. The constable was dragged for a while and then fell on the road. The accused sped away.
Cops called up helpline 112. A PCR (police control room) vehicles took Varinder to Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32. He received injuries on his shoulders, head and other body parts.
Sector 49 police recorded his statement. Varinder provided the registration number of the vehicle to the police. A case under relevant Sections of the IPC was registered. Police claimed they have traced the vehicle. After verification of the person behind the wheel at the time of incident, an arrest would be made.
On March 2, a car driver dragged a traffic police constable on the bonnet for around 1km. Constable Kuldeep Kumar was deployed at old airport light point when he noticed a Honda city car driver coming without wearing a seat belt. The driver slowed down his car near the constable and as the cop asked him to show his licence, the driver pressed the accelerator. The cop fell on the bonnet.
