The Great Yowie Mystery! Footprints found on bush highway spark wild conspiracy theories - but one motorist thinks there is a VERY simple explanation to the yellow marks
- Seven yellow-painted footprints were left on a road in northern Queensland
- Some joked the prints may have been from dingos or the mythical yowie
- One man said the tracks are likely to warn motorists animals are in the area
A mysterious set of footprints on a highway has sparked wild conspiracy theories into who or what could have left them behind.
The seven large, yellow-painted prints were spotted scrawled across Peninsula Developmental Road around 125km north of Coen in northern Queensland this week.
Several people suggested the tracks may belong to a dingo or even the mythical yowie, but one said it was likely to be a warning for animals in the area.
The paint could pass as odd road markings but transport bosses say they had nothing to do with it adding further to the mystery.

Seven large, yellow-painted prints were spotted scrawled across an outback road in Northern Queensland this week - with many speculating who could have left them
Queensland's Department of Transport and Main Roads said they had no part in the mysterious prints.
'That's... nothing to worry about right?' the Department said.
'We honestly don't know who left these tracks in North Queensland - but our line markers swear it wasn't them and they're getting seriously worried about the size of the drop-bears this season.'
The post was flooded with comments with many speculating they belonged to a dangerous animal.
'I'd say it's that giant panther that is often a news item. If that isn't genuine evidence of its existence then I don't know what is,' one joked.
'The Pilliga Yowie went north for the winter,' another said,
'Has to be from a yowie,' a third commented.
Others joked the prints were from the made up 'drop bear' but one believed it was to help motorists be wary of animals crossing.
'That would be a great indicator for wildlife crossing. As an ex-traffic control officer, I know many drivers just do not see roadside signs - that puts the issue at hand right across their field of vision,' he said.
