The minimalist makeover of jewellery

Over the years, the rise of minimalist trends has taught us the beauty of, 'less is more'. Just like clothes, the gem and jewellery industry also took to clean shapes with intricate designs and soft tones. Dainty accessories are lightweight and easy to wear on a daily basis. Plus, they are low maintenance and go well with everything. "Women nowadays look for practicality and fuss-free options, they look for unique minimal designs," says Leshna Shah, Founder & Creative head of Irasva. While minimal jewellery may look simple, the standout factor remains the clean cuts and lines.
Abhishek Rastogi, Head of Design, Jewellery Division, Titan Company Limited explains, "Minimalism is not just an emerging trend of the current times but is becoming a way of life for the millennials, who are gradually moving past materialism and embracing simplicity." As the aesthetic of minimalism is catching on, let's explore how the jewellery is getting a simplistic makeover:

Earrings
Simplistic designs are effortless to wear and add sophistication into any outfit. Be it everyday wear or office meetings, these designs might not be flashy, but will certainly make a statement.

"Minimalistic diamonds studs have been a trending category for Irasva. Unique designs and intricate detailing is what sets apart these delicate studs. We have an entire category dedicated to simplistic studs radiating beauty and simplicity for your everyday attire," says Leshna.

Rings
One of the best jewellery investments is buying pieces you can wear every day regardless of the occasion. The trend of simple bands, rings with delicate gems and stackable dainty rings has been picking up rapidly.

"Band rings with diamonds have been quite popular among the millennials. These bands can be worn solo or stacked with more rings to create a new look. Such rings can easily be worn at office, parties and cocktails," says Leshna.

Bracelets and Bangles
From stackable bangles to dainty bracelets, millennials swear by versatile baubles. CaratLane, one of the leading online jewellery portals specialises in contemporary jewellery and has been quite popular among the millennial buyers.

As per a report published in Economic Times, lightweight jewellery emerged as a preferred choice for consumers during the festive season. "There is a double-digit growth in demand for jewellery that women can actually every day rather than heavy jewellery or gold coins which typically end up in the locker," says Atul Sinha, SVP - Marketing, CaratLane

Necklaces
Across the runways and celebrities trends, layered dainty necklaces and delicate chains with statement pendants have popped up everywhere. Sleeker designs are stylish and can go from desk to dinner.

"In jewellery, the trend revolves around simplicity and you see the designs are getting much sleeker and dainty, that are classy to go with more number of outfits and more number of occasions. Being lightweight it is also easy on the pocket. Higher need for modular jewellery further strengthens the essence of minimalism and less is more," points out Abhishek.

"There is an unspoken sentiment of expressing intimacy and celebrating life-long connections by a simple gesture. Women today prefer to self-purchase and connect the diamonds they buy with achievement, a special moment or a milestone, no matter how big or small. These buyers are looking at diamond jewellery that is minimalistic yet elegant, that is classic yet conveys a gamut of priceless emotions and can be worn on special occasions or every day. Forevermark curates jewellery that can be worn for different occasions from day to night making it the perfect adornment. Such new designs are informal, playful and experimental," explains Federica Imperiali, head of new product development at Forevermark.
