CHANDIGARH: A continuous rise in Covid-19 cases has prompted the UT administration to consider weekend lockdown on the pattern of the Punjab government.
During a review meeting held under the chairmanship of UT administrator V P Singh Badnore on Wednesday, a view emerged that if there is more drastic rise in the number of cases or if residents continue to violate social distancing norms, Chandigarh could opt for weekend closure of markets or curfew on weekends.
Meanwhile, the administrator directed officials that all pregnant women admitted in hospitals must be mandatorily tested for Covid.
Badnore also directed officials to enhance vigil and ensure that all those violating social distancing guidelines and other instructions be penalised through a special drive to be conducted by dedicated teams in different parts of the city.
Badnore directed the deputy commissioner to ensure that all visitors from outside the Tricity, who are staying in different localities, are monitored for symptoms. They should not be allowed to violate the quarantine stipulations.
Badnore also directed the director general of police to ensure that vehicles bearing registration numbers of outstation and bringing visitors from outside the Tricity into Chandigarh are checked at the borders and their details obtained for subsequent monitoring.
