NEW DELHI: India registered its biggest single-day increase in Covid-19 cases on Thursday, recording close to 17,000 coronavirus infections, to push the overall tally to 4.73 lakh as the number of fatalities inched closer to 15,000, according to the Union health ministry data. The data showed the daily Covid-19 cases increased by the highest-ever number of 16,922 cases to reach 4,73,105, while the death-toll climbed to 14,894 with 418 new fatalities.

India
A mobile application that would enable people to access "safe blood" easily, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic, was launched by Union health minister Harsh Vardhan on Thursday.
Developed by the E-Raktkosh team of Centre for Development of Advanced Computing, the application will bring transparency and facilitate single-window access to blood services of the Indian Red Cross Society, officials said.
The remaining CBSE and ICSE Board examinations for classes X and XII, scheduled to be held in July, have been cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Supreme Court was informed on Thursday.
The examinees of class XII students of CBSE Board will however have the option of either taking the exams later or to move ahead with the assessment based on their performance in the last three internal exams. The re-exam option will not be available to class X students.
A central team, led by joint secretary in the health ministry Lav Agarwal, will visit Gujarat, Maharashtra and Telangana between June 26 and 29 to coordinate with the state officials in strengthening Covid-19 management efforts in those areas, the ministry said. The team will also review the measures undertaken by the states for containment of Covid-19.
Domestic pharma giant Hetero has started delivering the generic version of 20,000 vials of Covifor (Remdesivir) across the country. The product is priced at Rs 5,400/- per vial.
More than 25 lakh officers have registered themselves for an online training module for capacity-building to effectively fight against the coronavirus pandemic, Union minister Jitendra Singh said.
The integrated government online training (iGOT) platform has been made functional by the Centre for building capacity of healthcare staff involved in containing the pandemic.
According to ICMR, a total of 75,60,782 samples have been tested up to June 24 with 2,07,871 samples being tested on Wednesday.
Over 30 personnel attached to Naval Air Station INS Parundu have tested positive for coronavirus, officials said, but the forward operating base was 'operational', defence sources in Chennai said.
The Railways has produced 1.91 lakh personal protection gowns, more than 66,000 lakh hand sanitisers and 7.33 lakh masks since the coronavirus lockdown was announced in March. The national carrier is also working to achieve its target of producing 1.5 lakh PPE coveralls each in June and July.

Delhi: Corona-positive persons will not be required to visit Covid care centres for a clinical assessment for home isolation or hospitalisation, Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia said after an SDMA meeting.
UP: Uttar Pradesh recorded 15 more deaths and 636 new coronavirus cases, taking the tally past the 2,000-mark as the fatalities mounted to 611. At 20,193 cases, the state has added 12,370 to the count since June 1.
Karnataka: The Karnataka government said Bengaluru is still 'safe' compared to the Covid-19 situation in other cities and states and ruled out fresh lockdown for now, putting to rest speculations that it was planning such a move in view of spike in cases.
Maharashtra: The Maharashtra government would conduct antigen tests, which would provide results of the Covid-19 tests within an hour, unlike the current waiting period of over 24 hours, state health minister Rajesh Tope said.
Ladakh: As many as 84 more Covid-19 patients were released from quarantine after getting cured of the disease in Ladakh, bringing down the number of the active cases in the Union territory to 582.
Tamil Nadu: Tamil Nadu reported 3,509 new virus cases, the highest single day increase so far, and 45 fatalities taking the infection count to 70,977 and death toll to 911.
Gujarat: In a relief to citizens, the Gujarat government reduced the rates for Covid-19 tests conducted at private laboratories from Rs 4,000 to Rs 2,500.
Arunachal: Arunachal East Lok Sabha MP Tapir Gao has allocated Rs 12 lakh from his MPLADS funds to fight Covid-19 in 11 districts under his constituency.
Uttarakhand: The state's Covid-19 tally rose to 2,642 with 20 more people testing positive for the disease.
Rajasthan: As many as 76 fresh coronavirus cases were reported in Rajasthan, taking the total number of positive cases to 16,085 in the state.
Goa: With as many as 137 Covid-19 patients recovering from the infection in Goa in the last two days, chief minister Pramod Sawant has expressed confidence that the number of recoveries in the state will grow in the coming days.
Assam: Assam reported 88 new Covid-19 cases, pushing the tally to 6,370 in the state. There are 2,400 active cases in the state, while 3,958 patients have been discharged from hospitals after recovering from the disease.
Nagaland: Eight more people have tested positive for Covid-19 in Nagaland, taking the states tally to 355. Of the 355 cases, 195 are active while 160 people have recovered.
Puducherry: Puducherry reported 39 new Covid-19 positive cases taking the overall tally in the Union territory to 502.
Odisha: With 210 new coronavirus cases in Odisha, the Covid-19 tally in the state rose to 5,962. There are 1,815 active cases in the state.
Mizoram: Six more people have been cured of Covid-19 in Mizoram, taking the total number of recoveries in the northeastern state to 30. With this development, 115 of the 145 cases in the state are active.
HP: Another Covid-19 patient died in Himachal Pradesh, raising the toll due to the disease in the state to eight. The state has now 319 active cases.
