It also announced that halfyearly and quarterly exam marks would carry 80% weightage while attendance will be given 20% weightage.
School education minister K A Sengottaiyan held a review meeting on Tuesday. He instructed officials to prepare a grade system for Class X students. "The department is considering awarding grades instead of marks to Class X students. But, no decision has been taken," sources in the department said.
CBSE awards grades based on ranges of marks. Students would get AI, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2 and D in CBSE board exams. A similar grading system is likely to be introduced for this year.
Directorate of government examinations asked for records including evaluated answer scripts, progress reports and marks registers to award marks for Class X students. There were complaints against private schools that they conduct half-yearly exams to produce answer sheets.
“A few private schools did not conduct quarterly exams and many schools have distributed the quarterly and halfyearly exam papers to students and those papers could not be retrieved. So, it is not possible to award absolute marks," said N Vijayan, senior principal of Zion Matriculation Higher Secondary School. "Henceforth, the marks of quarterly and half-yearly should be uploaded on EMIS portal. So, in any contingencies they can use the marks," he added.
Meanwhile, the school education department collected the records throughout the state for the third day on Wednesday. "There will be three level verifications. First the documents are verified at district education offices and later it would be verified by marks verification and scrutiny officers," education officials said. Schools from Chennai and neighbouring districts are exempted from submitting the records till the lockdown.
