ngly in the past few days. We fear there is a risk of community spread. As an obligation and responsibility towards society and our members, all sections of the club will be closed until further notice from today (Wednesday)...”
Srikanth HS, president of Federation of Clubs-Karnataka told TOI: “We have consulted experts, who expressed the view that it would be ideal to shut as more cases are being reported. In these tough times, we need to stand with the government and need to ensure the health of members and their families is not affected.”
“Since March, the entire club had been shut, including the office. Two weeks ago, the government sanctioned limited permission to operate clubs. We opened it for two hours in the morning and evening for sports but as there is a scare of community spread, we will decide on Thursday," said BNS Reddy, president of Indiranagar club.
Elections likely to be postponed
While June and July are election months for clubs, many have decided to postpone the process until the situation is under control. TOI spoke to multiple club representatives who said they are in no state to conduct elections as it can put members into trouble. Srikanth said, “Clubs will take a call, but it’s likely that they will resume full-scale operations only after the pandemic.”
