MUMBAI: CM Uddhav Thackeray has written to PM Narendra Modi requesting postponement of postgraduation final exams for medical students enrolled in MD (Doctor of Medicine) and MS (Master of Surgery) courses in Maharashtra till December.
The letter requests Modi to direct Medical Council of India to postpone the exams organised by Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik, from July 15. Nearly 3,000 PG doctors are to take the exams.
"The final-year resident doctors, who are required to take these exams, are currently working on the frontline... assisting the clinical management of Covid-19 patients. If the exams are held as per schedule, there would be a serious shortage of trained doctors during this very crucial period and so these exams should be postponed till December," Thackeray's letter said. It added that entrance examination of super-speciality courses be conducted after the final-year exams.
