The 1995 Rugby World Cup final will no doubt go down as one of South African rugby's finest days.

The Springboks would go on to claim more glory in 2007 when they beat England 15-6 in the World Cup final in Paris and in 2019 they again beat the English 32-12 in the final in Yokohama.

What a drop that was from Joel Stransky!

It was later revealed that the Springbok flyhalf had opted to cancel the initial planned move when he saw a gap for a drop goal.

Scrumhalf Joost van der Westhuizen recalled in later years that his opposite number, Graeme Bachop, made a crucial error in trying to disrupt his pass instead of covering Stransky, which left a gap for the Bok pivot to execute and hand his side a 15-12 advantage.

After the Springboks won possession at scrum time, Stransky kicked the drop from about 30m out after receiving a pass from Van der Westhuizen.

Bachop made a crucial error by trying to cover Van der Westhuizen, leaving a gap for Stransky to slot the drop kick.

The Boks now with more possession in the early parts of the second period... are the All Blacks tiring?

The hosts have a scrum just inside the New Zealand 22m area...

And that's HALF-TIME in extra-time.

90'- The Boks win a penalty in front of the uprights as the All Blacks are pinged at ruck time.

Stransky will line up a shot...

The reckless Loe is hardly on the field before being reprimanded by the referee for charging into a ruck.

It allows Stransky to set up a lineout inside New Zealand territory...

EXPLAINER: If the scores remain level after 20 minutes of extra-time then the team who scored the most tries in the match will be declared champions.

If there are no tries scores, like is the case here, the team with the best disciplinary record in the tournament will take the Cup.

The Boks had two players suspended earlier in the tournament so the onus is on them to go and win the game from here...

A worrying sign for the Boks is that they have created relatively few scoring chances in the second half.

But their defence is keeping them in the game.

67'- New Zealand scrumhalf Graeme Bachop is off for blood and Ant Strachan is his temporary replacement.

Bachop will come back later for a crucial error...

With less than 20 minutes remaining in regulation time, the All Blacks have won 19 lineouts to South Africa's 13.

Remember in those days you weren't allowed to pick up jumpers in the lineouts...

Lomu gets past Small out wide and looks to be on his way to the tryline, however referee Morrison calls them back for a forward pass.
