After much speculation, the release date of late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput's last movie, Dil Bechara, has finally been confirmed. Instead of hitting theatres sometime in the far future, the romantic drama will now have a digital release, and will be available on Disney+ Hotstar on July 24, 2020.
Along with the entertainment platform, the special announcement was also made by Sanjana Sanghi, who plays the lead role opposite Rajput. The actor added a heartfelt message with the new poster that shows the duo together: "For the love of Sushant and his love for cinema, the movie will be available to all subscribers and non-subscribers."
Dil Bechara also marks the directorial debut of Mukesh Chhabra, who shared an emotional note on his personal Instagram account today. “Sushant was not just the hero of my debut film as a director, but he was a dear friend who stood by me through thick and thin,” Chhabra wrote. “We had been close right from Kai Po Che to Dil Bechara. He had promised me that he would be in my first film. So many plans were made together, so many dreams were dreamt together, but never once did I ever imagine that I would be left alone to release this film. He always showered immense love on me while I was making it and his love will guide us as we release it. And I'm glad that the producers have made it available for everyone to watch. We are going to love and celebrate you my friend. I can visualise you with your beautiful smile blessing us from up above. Love you.”
Marking Sanghi's first and Rajput's final project, Dil Bechara is the official remake of John Green's 2012 novel The Fault in Our Stars, and was originally named Kizie Aur Manny. Just like its Hollywood counterpart, the movie tells the love story of two youngsters battling for their lives, namely Kizie Basu and Immanuel Rajkumar Junior, or Manny. The film's release date has been pushed multiple times, but now, fans and well-wishers of Sushant Singh Rajput can look forward to enjoying watching his work one last time from the comfort of their homes with loved ones.
Sushant Singh Rajput died by suicide on June 14 at the age of 34, and has left behind a collection of noteworthy films including MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, Chhichhore, PK and Kedarnath. Three days post his death, the much-loved actor's team also launched a website in his honour to keep his community of fans connected. Watching Dil Bechara online is sure to be a bittersweet experience for those who loved his work.
