NEW DELHI: In a week marked by flip-flops by Delhi lieutenant-governor
Anil Baijal on Covid-19 management, the capital has once again gone back to its old system of
home isolation for asymptomatic and mild symptom Covid-19 patients after a check-up by medical team at home.
Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday evening, Delhi deputy chief minister
Manish Sisodia said, “Delhi will go back to the old system being followed till last Friday. Anyone who has tested positive for
Covid would be visited by Delhi government’s medical team at home. The team would check fever and oxygen saturation and examine the home set up. If it is a two-bedroom flat or the patient has access to a separate room and toilet, he would be allowed to stay at home. Any serious patient or somebody who has comorbidities would be referred to a Covid dedicated facility.”
Last week, lieutenant-governor had introduced a new system in which every Covid positive patient had to mandatorily undergo five-day institutional quarantine irrespective of the extent of symptoms. As the order triggered fears of massive spread, Baijal revoked it.
However, he introduced a new system in which every Covid positive patient had to report to a Covid care centre where doctors analysed his symptoms and then allowed home isolation or referred to a Covid facility. Delhi government opposed it as it put an unnecessary burden on the ambulance system.
On Thursday a decision to resume the old system of home isolation was taken at a meeting of
State Disaster Management Authority.
