To encourage creativity among children, the Museum of Goa Foundation (MOGF) launched ‘A World of My Own’, a children art programme in 2019.

As part of this programme, the foundation is currently hosting an online art exhibition on their website, showcasing works of children in the age group of five to 15 years of age.

Art, says project manager, Sunaina Misra, plays an essential role in the holistic growth of children. “It is through art that they find joy, freedom and fulfilment,” she adds.

The exhibition thus encourages children to create and connect with art and enables them to explore new ways of seeing, understanding, and creating. “We aim at identifying children with creative thinking skills through this initiative,” says Misra. 

The exhibition which went live on May 4, introduces a new theme every three months. The current theme is ‘If I open the door of my house? Where would I go?’ Explaining the reason behind this theme, Misra says: “When we sent out the open call, the lockdown was at its peak. Even now the children are mostly confined to their domestic space. Therefore, we thought it will be fun to see how they imagine their lives outside their home. If you see the works that are currently live on the website, you will see the most imaginative and crazy ideas. That has also proven to be a great creative outlet for children.”

The children have complete creative freedom in putting together their artwork using any medium be it collage, water colours, acrylic, sketches, finger art, art with waste, etc.

So far they have received over 130 submissions from various parts of the country, which Misra says is extremely encouraging. “Schools and other educational institutions have been supportive by sharing the details with parents and teachers,” she adds.

The panel will then identify some works that reflect the theme in the most innovative ways along with the capacity to think creatively. The best works will be sent

surprise gifts.

The digital platform allows children to exhibit their works based on a theme, and click ‘like’ on works of fellow participants.

Themes

The subject of the exhibition will change every three months and will be open ended allowing participants to express freely.

Prizes

The best three works will be awarded along with a special gift for the work with the most likes on the website.
