Controversial projects passed during lockdown: Vijai

Margao: The Goa Forward Party (GFP) chief and Fatorda legislator Vijai Sardesai on Thursday charged that the central government and the state BJP government have passed controversial projects in Goa, “which will have a huge environmental impact and cause irreparable damage.”

In a video message, Sardesai, who spoke on many issues and criticised the BJP government, said “The state government is in a panic mode on its political health (in the backdrop of development in Manipur), on public health (over COVID-19 handling) and on economic health and, hence, spreading the rumours of a split in Goa Forward Party.”

He pointed that the Centre and the state government together passed and gave permission for the controversial projects during the lockdown period.

He said that the Centre is making Goa a corridor for transportation of coal and ore, so also controversial projects passing through forests have been passed.

He predicted that there is no future for BJP in Goa.  “BJP has no conviction. No one will join the sinking ship,” he said,

adding, on the contrary, eight BJP legislators are ready to leave the party. He however did not reveal the name of these legislators.
