HYDERABAD: An urban forest park developed on 50 hectares of land at a cost of Rs 3.45 crore was inaugurated on Thursday on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada highway at Lakkaram reserve forest on the way to Chouttupal.
Forests and environment minister A Indrakaran Reddy and energy minister G Jagadeeshwar Reddy marked the inauguration of the park by planting saplings in connection with the launch of the state government’s Haritha Haram programme.
Indrakaran Reddy said the sixth phase of Haritha Haram programme of planting saplings across the state would vastly improve the air quality and provide a better environment for people.
The ‘Thangedu vanam’ as the park is called was developed as an urban lung space. Similar parks will be developed in every assembly constituency under erstwhile Nalgonda district, minister Jagadeeshwar Reddy said. The ‘Thangedu vanam’ at Lakkaram is nearly 45 km from Hyderabad. He said the Hyderabad-Vijayawada stretch of national highway was already being referred to as ‘Haritha Rahadari’ because of the greenery that had been developed.
