CBSE Board Class 10th, 12th Exam 2020 HIGHLIGHTS: Class 12 students will be evaluated on their performance in the last three school exams. They can also appear for the board exam at a later date to improve performance, in case they are not satisfied with the marks given by the board.

CBSE Board Class 10th, 12th Exam 2020 HIGHLIGHTS: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to cancel the pending exams for class 10. However, Class 12 students will be evaluated on their performance in the last three school exams. They can also appear for the board exam at a later date to improve performance, in case they are not satisfied with the marks given by the board.

Also, for students opting to improve their performance in the board exams (at a later date) will be considered final. The remaining CBSE papers which were postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic were to be held from July 1 to 15, however, with the rapid rise in coronavirus cases across the country still continuing, the education board and government are reconsidering their decision.

The announcement of the CBSE exams is also going to impact the admission process of all central universities as well as the national entrance exams including JEE Main and NEET 2020. Meanwhile, CISCE too will not conduct ICSE, ISC exams this year.

Why were the exams canceled?

The country’s national school board was forced to make the Class 12 exams optional after parents expressed concerns over the safety of their children as many states continue to report a record surge in COVID19 positive cases on most days. The fact that many schools, which were supposed to act as examination centres, were also being used for quarantine and isolation purposes posed a significant logistical challenge.

States pushed CBSE to alter dates for pending class 12 exams

The Supreme Court asked the central government and the CBSE to issue a fresh notification regarding Class 12 examinations and to clarify on the status of state board exams. This came after the state governments in Delhi, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu said they would be unable to conduct the examinations due to the pandemic

CISCE to cancel Class 10, 12 board exams

The Council for The Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) is likely to cancel the ICSE and ISC or class 12 and 10 board exams which were scheduled to be held in July. The decision came after the CBSE decided not to hold its remaining board exams.

CBSE to conduct class 12 exam later

Students who are dissatisfied with their results can opt for the pen-and-paper exam, which will be conducted by the Board later in the year. However, Class 10 students do not have this option. For them, the exams have been scrapped. CBSE will issue a formal notification to this effect by Friday

How students to be evaluated

The Central Board of Seconadry Education (CBSE) has cancelled the pending papers of class 12 to be conducted from July 1. Apart from Class 12, CBSE was also to hold the pending exams for Class 10 students belonging to the North-East region of Delhi which was affected by violence earlier this year

CBSE Board Class 10th, 12th Exam 2020 HIGHLIGHTS: CBSE had anyway suggested following the internal assessment norm for exams which it is not conducting. Out of 40-odd subjects, exams were being held only for 29 subjects.  CBSE is not the only board to do the same, CISCE also said that it will give students an option to appear for paper pen based exams or opt out of it and get marks based on internal assessment.

The pending exams for Class 12 include 12 core subjects — Business Studies, Geography, Hindi (Core), Hindi (Elective), Home Science, Sociology, Computer Science (Old), Computer Science (New), Information Practice (Old), Information Practice (New), Information Technology and Bio-Technology.
