Jamshedpur: Police in West Singhbhum said they have lodged a case against 10 CPI (Maoist) members for threatening village heads in the Saranda-Porahat region.
SP Indrajeet Mahata said: “A case under relevant sections of the UAP Act, CLA Act and Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2000 have been lodged against 10 named Maoists in Tonto police station. The accused are Prashant Bose, Misir Besra, Anmol, Mochu, Suresh Munda, Kande Honhaga, Lodro Lohar, Rahat, Sagen and Anita.” Police have also lodged cases against unidentified ultras.
Showing letters allegedly distributed by the Maoists among the villagers, Mahatha said that the outfit’s Kolhan area committee dispatched the letters to gram pradhans, munda, dakua and members of the traditional village committees asking them to find new recruits from every village.
The banned outfit reportedly wanted to recruit new members to avenge the death of three female Maoists — Sujata, Priyanka and Shanti — at the hands of security forces in the district on April 4 this year.
“Maoists have asked village heads to arrange a batch of 20 young recruits — 10 boys and 10 girls — from every village or face grave consequences,” the SP said.
