Imports from China facing physical inspection at customs based on intelligence inputs: Sources (PTI)

Amid heightened border tensions with China, Indian customs officials have started physical inspection of all consignments coming from the neighbouring country based on intelligence inputs. Although there is no formal order, but Indian customs authority is inspecting consignments originating from China that arrive at any airport or port, government sources with direct knowledge of the development said. Authorities are checking documents, goods and valuation, they said.

Delhi Hotel Association to boycott Chinese goods, not provide accommodation to Chinese nationals, reports PTI

Delhi Hotels & Restaurant Owners Association has decided to boycott Chinese goods and not provide any accommodation to Chinese nationals as a mark of protest against the recent Chinese aggression along the Indian border. The Association has written to the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) and has extended full support to its boycott Chinese goods campaign.

Congress seeks virtual Parliament session to discuss LAC stand-off

"A session of Parliament should be convened to discuss important issues. The Parliamentary Committees are also not meeting, even when there are key issues to be discussed," Khera said at a press conference. The Congress leader said Parliament is the only medium where everyone can discuss the key issues and together work out a strategy to deal with them.

Responding to Conservative Party MP Flick Drummond on the implications for British interests of a dispute between a “Commonwealth member and the world's largest democracy on the one side, and a state that challenges our notion of democracy on the other,” he described the escalation in eastern Ladakh as “a very serious and worrying situation”, which the UK is "monitoring closely". “Perhaps the best thing I can say… is that we are encouraging both parties to engage in dialogue on the issues on the border and sort it out between them,” the Prime Minister said.

Amid reports of Chinese build-up at the border, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Thursday said India should force China back by all means as its arsenal is not meant for "hatching eggs". Several Congress leaders, including P Chidambaram, also spoke out on the issue. Chidambaram termed as "extraordinary demand" the assertion of China's Foreign Ministry and PLA as they again laid claim to the entire Galwan Valley and demanded that India vacate the area.
