'This is the industry’s way of thanking Australian medical and health workers, police, and firefighters for their hard work and dedication in keeping us safe during COVID-19 and the Bushfires,' Target said in a statement.

First responders can redeem the offer at the discount department store by showing a photo ID with their work identity.

The retailer clarified that 'first responders include medical health workers including doctors, nurses, paramedics and ambulance staff, firefighters and all law enforcement officers.'

A Target spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia: 'Target Australia is proud to recognise the extraordinary and valued contributions of the first responders within our community.

'We are incredibly grateful to all medical staff, health workers and firefighters who have demonstrated immense courage and dedication to serve, support and keep Australians safe during these tough times.'

Target's offer is only applicable in-store and excludes giftcards, charity bags and gaming consoles.

First Responders Day offers an opportunity for stores across Australia to show their gratitude and appreciation for the workers.

The Australian Retailers Association said: 'This event encourages retailers large and small to combine their efforts and thank first responders for their courage, commitment, and contribution.'
