IMA scam-accused IAS officer ‘kills self’ in Bengaluru

BENGALURU: Promotee IAS officer BM Vijay Shankar, who was suspended after being arrested for allegedly accepting bribes in the I Monetary Advisory (IMA) Ponzi case, was found hanging from the ceiling of his house on Tuesday in south Bengaluru. It appeared to be a suicide. The 59-year-old officer is survived by two daughters.
Sources in Sakala Mission, where he was posted as Mission Director I, said the officer attended a review meeting on Tuesday and left the office in the evening. They added that he appeared cheerful.Police sources said Vijay Shankar went into his room at home at around 7pm. At about 7.35pm, his wife called out to him repeatedly but got no response.
On checking, she found him hanging from the ceiling on a plastic wire.She informed the police which rushed there and brought down the body. The officer was wearing a cervical collar, apparently to ensure his last moments were not painful.Why he would commit suicide was yet to be ascertained, a police official said.
