Today (24 June 2020) marks Alfa Romeo's 110th birthday, and the automaker is celebrating it in the best possible way - given the global circumstances.
Over the last century, Alfa has grown in leaps and bounds; going from a small, independent company to a fully-fledged automotive giant. While it wasn't always moonshine and roses, Alfa pressed on and persevered.
With successes both on and off track, Alfa Romeo roped in numerous motorsport successes, as well as winning the Formula 1 championship. The on-track achievements translated onto the road cars and do every Alfa ever built carry something of that rich motorsport heritage.
Congratulations, Alfa Romeo. May you always go from strength to strength.
Culmination of beautiful work
Wheels24 had been covering highlights of Alfa Romeo's history in the build-up to this moment. In each of the stories, Alfa Romeo gave particular reference to unique and special moments in archives. From the earliest conceptualization of the brand to how it eventually came to build cars, every intricate detail was mentioned.
The episodes also showcased some of the cars that impacted on Alfa Romeo; back then and now. The earliest cars may each have their own story to tell, but the essence of Alfa Romeo shone through. Modern interpretations, such as the Stelvio and Giulietta, are culminations of what Alfa Romeo achieved over the years. And cars such as the 8C and 4C are of the most beautiful sports cars built by any automaker.
The road to this moment wasn't an easy one for Alfa Romeo, but they made it work and can the greater Alfa team look back on 110 years and be proud of what they've achieved. Today's celebration is not an end to 110 great years, but a new beginning as they look to the future and spawn a new generation of sensual and beautiful machines.
