Wardle Co Real Estate agent Angus Barnden said the demand for rental properties and investment properties was growing in Peterborough.

'We've got lots of investors who want to buy there because return on investment is good, and there's not enough houses on the market to rent,' he told realestate.com.au.

Meanwhile Western Australia secured two spots on the top 10 list including Rangeway coming in second with $70,000 and Merredin at number five with $80,000.

For those looking to settle on the east coast, there were no properties in New South Wales, Victoria or the Australian Capital Territory with a median house price under the $100,000 mark.

But those considering a tree change may need to think twice before pulling the trigger.

Chief economist at realestate.com.au Nerida Conisbee said country towns usually don't offer the same job-opportunities as their city counterparts.

But she said with the shift towards the working from home model driven by COVID-19 could make it easier for people to relocate.

'While they are incredibly affordable, it might be difficult to get a job if you were to move there. As remote working accelerates, this may no longer be an issue for some people,' she said.
