CHENNAI: The
AIADMK government in
Tamil Nadu has wasted 90 days of the continuing lockdown without controlling the spread of Covid-19, DMK president
M K Stalin alleged on Wednesday. “The government must act at least now,” he said in a statement.
“At present, Tamil Nadu people are in their golden hour, as doctors tell about the time for saving critical patients. So the chief minister
Edappadi K Palaniswami must act at least now and take proper steps to control
coronavirus," said Stalin.
The DMK chief said Chennai once used to be a place for people to settle as it provided livelihood to them. “But now people leaving the city with their families as they are not able to pay rent. The cost of living is also increasing. Each day, fuel prices are increasing without any control. Is it not the responsibility of the chief minister to stop the exodus?,” said Stalin.
He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman had made announcements worth Rs 20 lakh crore. “When we asked the Centre to provide funds to people, it made several announcements for new schemes. The latest announcement made by the Prime Minister is only for six states whither guest workers returned,” said Stalin.
Stalin said power consumers in Tamil Nadu are suffering as the government and Tangedco were refusing to provide any relief to them. “Above all, fuel prices are also increasing,” he said.
Stalin said the government had refused to provide any relief to power consumers from paying their bills. “The government has informed the Madras high court that it has already announced July 15 as the last date for consumers in the four districts. Does Tamil Nadu have only four districts? What about consumers in other districts,” he asked.
The DMK chief said the chief minister had failed to protect the people affected by the lockdown.
