Surat: Surat city reported 152 fresh cases on Tuesday taking the city’s Covid-19 tally to 3,529.
According to Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC), Katargam zone reported the highest number of positive cases with 40, followed by 26 in Varachha (A), 24 in Rander and 16 in Limbayat zone.
Hotspot Katargam now 848 cases alone, the second highest after Limbayat, and the way cases are emerging daily, it appears it would soon overtake Limbayat in number of cases.
Four patients succumbed to the virus which included a 71-year-old man from Katargam, 55-year-old woman from Limbayat, 50-year-old woman from Varachha (A) and 82-year-old man from Rander zone in the city. SMC officials said that all four had co-morbid conditions, especially diabetes. With this, death toll due to Covid-19 reached 141 in the city.
Meanwhile, 57 patients were discharged in the city on Tuesday after they recovered.
Total 2,287 patients have been discharged till date in the city. Meanwhile, for speedier testing of Covid, the state government allotted one testing machine to the general hospital in Vyara town, district headquarters of Tapi, which earlier sent all samples to Surat.
“The machine will help us test all samples locally at the general hospital laboratory,” said Dr Naitik Chaudhary, surgeon, general hospital, Vyara. Tapi has no active case now.
