Amid the rising number of coronavirus cases in Chennai, Tamil Nadu chief minister on Monday announced a further 12-day 'complete lockdown' in the state capital and certain parts of Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur districts between June 19 and 30.

Tamil Nadu logged 2,516 fresh cases of Covid-19 on Tuesday, but the number of people tested for the viral infection dropped by at least 6,000 compared to Sunday. The case tally rose to 64,603, and the official toll in the state reached 833 with 39 more deaths registered.
Tomato prices skyrocket in retail markets
The prices of the tomato, a staple in almost every kitchen, skyrocketed in retail markets across the city, despite the rates at the temporary wholesale vegetable market in Thirumazhisai being relatively low. The stocks at the Thirumazhisai market were adequate, said sources.
