Mickky lashes out over FIR registered against him

Margao: Former Benaulim MLA Francisco Xavier Pacheco alias Mickky on Wednesday lashed out after the Crime Branch police registered an FIR against him for comments made by him at a press conference last week.

On Wednesday, he addressed another press conference with his wife and three children lashing out at the government.

“Why am I the only one being targeted? Ministers from this government have made similar comments like the ones I made and there has been no action against them. So why me? And what I said was not an allegation, but a fact. When special passes were given only for essential items, why was iron ore being allowed to cross the borders,” said Pacheco.

The Crime Branch police on Tuesday registered the FIR against Pacheco under IPC section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and had apparently been registered in view of the statements made by him during a press briefing held last week.

Pacheco while speaking at Wednesday’s press conference also lashed out at the police for harassing him, recalling an incident where police had come to his home in the middle of the night to get him tested for COVID-19 after it emerged that he had shared a flight with a patient who had tested positive. His test however came negative.

He also said that items that were confiscated from him during the Nadia case had not yet been returned despite the closure of the case.
