Thane, Navi Mumbai, Mira-Bhayandar and Ulhasnagar municipalities will get new bosses

The Maharashtra government on Tuesday carried out a major bureaucratic reshuffle in Thane District, transferring the municipal commissioners of Thane City, Navi Mumbai, Mira-Bhayandar and Ulhasnagar. The move comes amid spiralling cases of Covid-19 in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

The state Chief Secretary, Ajoy Mehta, issued the order. In Thane Vipin Sharma, a 2005 batch officer, will take over from Vijay Singhal.

In Navi Mumbai Annasaheb Misal was replaced by the Additional Divisional Commissioner of Nagpur, Abhijit Bangar (2008 batch). He has earlier worked in Palghar District.

In Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation, commissioner Chandrakant Dange was replaced by Dr Vijay Rathod (2014 batch). He has worked as the chief executive officer of Gadchiroli Zilla Parishad.

In Ulhasnagar, the state posted Dr Mantada Raja Dayanidhi (2014), who has worked as chief executive, Gondia Zilla Parishad. He will replace Sunil Unhale.

Last Saturday, the state appointed a young IAS officer of the 2016 batch, Pankaj Ashiya, to fight the Covid-19 pandemic. Ashiya worked in Kalvan in Nashik as subdivisional officer and was posted in Malegaon, where he contained the pandemic.

A senior IAS officer said: “We need to tackle Covid-19 aggressively in MMR. If the pandemic spreads further, it will be a big problem. That is why we posted a young IAS officer who can work fearlessly and with more energy.”

Earlier, the state had posted D Gangatharan as commissioner of Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation. In Mumbai Police, Dr Santosh Rastogi, Joint CP (Crime), has been posted as additional resident commissioner, Maharashtra Sadan, New Delhi. He has opted for a Delhi posting and the state will provide a replacement soon.

Total Covid-19 cases in MMR now stands at 1,01,496 and deaths at 4,781.
