CHENNAI: DMK Lok Sabha member from Tuticorin Kanimozhi Karunanidhi on Tuesday submitted a petition seeking criminal action against personnel at Sathankulam police station for the alleged custodial deaths of a father-son duo identified as Jayaraj and Bennix. Kanimozhi forwarded a complaint from J Selvarani, wife of Jayaraj, to the DGP.
“The men, who were assaulted by the police, did not even get medical assistance and the same was hidden from the magistrate when they were produced for taking them into custody. This blatant human rights violation raises the question whether rule of law has died in the state,” Kanimozhi asked.
She said the assault on the two for keeping their shop open during lockdown was highly condemnable.
“Strict action should be initiated against the concerned policemen, by registering murder charges, so as to deter others from indulging in such blatant criminal activities in future,” Kanimozhi said in her petition.
