A mum has shown off her incredible body transformation after she took up an Australian trainer's program and gained weight by adding muscle.

Nicki Marie, from Michigan, said up until two years ago, she used to focus on what the scales said and how she 'thought' she should look, but when she stumbled upon Kelsey's 'PWR' program, it completely changed her way of thinking.

Two years later, Nicki has gained 3.6 kilos in weight but revealed her abs for the first time in her life.

Even better, she no longer obsesses about what she eats and how often she exercises, but instead has a healthy attitude towards her diet and fitness.

According to Nicki, what she's done is make 'small changes' that have led to big health goals.

'I didn't work out to punish myself for eating something deemed "unhealthy" and gave up habits that made me feel like cr*p,' Nicki posted on Instagram

Instead of obsessing over how much cardio she has done, Nicki said she set herself a daily schedule of the targeted Kelsey Wells' workouts she would do.

For instance, on a Monday she might focus on her legs, while Tuesdays are typically dedicated to arms and abs.

'Having a schedule is just a little thing that helps me stay on track during the week and I look forward to my time in the gym because I have a plan,' Nicki posted.

'I also listen to my body more and take a few much-needed days off every now and then.'

Nicki's fitness has come on leaps and bounds since she started the Kelsey Wells program.

While she said initially, she could never do a push-up or tricep dip and so neglected her upper body because 'it was hard', now she has dedicated days towards her upper body and has gained huge strength.

'I remember when I had to help my husband move something heavy and his response was "I didn't think you could lift that",' Nicki said.

'It made me so damn proud to be so strong.'    

Alongside regular workouts, the mum-of-three couples this with a healthy diet filled with lean protein, green leafy vegetables and wholegrain carbohydrates.

She also said she enjoys eating a little of what she loves with her family in moderation.

* Work a different muscle group each day.

* Set yourself a workout schedule at the beginning of the week and pin it up so you have something to stick to and look forward to.

* Listen to your body and give yourself rest days if you feel you need them.

* Fill your diet with lean protein, leafy green vegetables and wholegrain carbohydrates, but don't deny yourself a little of what you love.

* Do not focus on the number of the scales, but rather how your body feels and looks.

* Don't punish yourself if you have a cheat day. It doesn't have to mean the entire week is derailed. 

* Enjoy a little bit of what you love and everything in moderation.

Kelsey recently shared Nicki's transformation snap on her Instagram page, complimenting her on her impressive efforts.

'Yes girl, this mindset is it!' she posted.

'I am SO proud of your non-scale victories and all that you have learned.' 

Thousands were quick to add their praise to the mum's body transformation, writing comments like: 'You look amazing' and 'I want to look like that'.
