Notably, since the last few months, KU was struggling to release pensions and salaries of its employees and pensioners and it had been expecting financial help from the Haryana government. The KU officials said they received Rs 85 crore grant at the time of utmost need amid Covid-19 situation.
Notably, out of Rs 85 crore annual grant, the first installment worth Rs 21.25 crore was received earlier by KU on May 13, 2020.
Thanking the state government and finance department, KU VC Dr Nita said, “The state government released Rs 85 crore as budget grant for the year 2020-21 to KU. Due to special intervention of Haryana governor Satyadeo Narain Arya and chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar, the government released the annual grant to KU at one go.”
The VC said that in the previous years, the annual grant was released after every three months in four installments but this time due to an emergent situation arising out of Covid-19 pandemic; the state government has released the grant in one go.
Dr Nita said, “Earlier, KU received a budget grant of Rs 21.25 crore as the first installment from the government on May 13, 2020. Now the grant of Rs 63.75 crore has been received as the second installment on June 22, 2020.”
The VC said that the salaries of the KU teachers and employees have been released and the pension of retirees is being deposited in their accounts on Tuesday.
After two months KU will have to manage with own income
The KU officials said with this grant of Rs 85 crore, the varsity has enough funds to manage the salaries and pensions for about next two months but after that it would have to manage with its own income for this year.
Income comes from admission forms, fees in July month
As per the normal affairs and schedule, the admissions start in KU near June-July month and the admission fees and forms are the main source of income for the university. Moreover, the income is also generated from examination forms, registration fees, reappear, re-evaluation and the fees from affiliated colleges.
